More about the women:
Sr. Lucy Kurien is the founder of the Maher project. Maher, which means ‘mother's home,’ is an interfaith shelter and resource center for battered and destitute women and children in India. Transcending religious and caste barriers in all aspects of its work, the Maher project demonstrates the power of interfaith collaboration to redress oppressive social conditions in Indian society.

Cynthia Brix is an interfaith minister and coauthor of the book about the Maher project, Women Healing Women: A Model of Hope for Oppressed Women Everywhere. Maher is a powerful example of women transforming their own lives and in doing so, healing their world.

Chaya Pamula, founder of SOFKIN (Support Organization For Kids In Need), lost her parents at a young age and grew up with an ambition to help orphans and needy children. In late 2004, Chaya visited many orphanages and charity institutions in India. The operating model of Maher inspired and encouraged Chaya to support Maher and also to start a similar project in Hyderanad, India. SOFKIN currently supports around 50 children. She holds a Master's in Business Administration, and a Project Management Professional (PMP) degree, and works for a leading pharmaceutical company in New Jersey as a director in the IT Department.
