The Metropolitan trains from the airport to Rome’s Tiburtina Station take about 45 minutes. In addition there is an express train called “Leonardo Express” which travels only from the airport to the main train station in Rome, Termini Station and takes about 30 minutes. This one is more expensive than the metropolitan train, and takes you to the same line to Assisi one stop earlier. The Trenitalia website will show both options.
From Rome the train to Assisi takes about 2 hours; some have another change at Foligno. There are many trains to Assisi every day.
Remember to get your train ticket stamped in a yellow validation machine just before using it.
In Assisi, the train station is at the bottom of the hill about three miles from the center of town. Bus line "C" (ASSISI - P.ZZA MATTEOTTI-FS-P.ZZA GARIBALDI) will take you the rest of the way. Or take a taxi.
